Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections and the signs of photo-aging. These conditions appear as broken capillaries, broken ("spider") veins, large areas of erythema (redness), benign brown pigment, age spots (sun-induced freckling), and mottled (uneven) pigmentation. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction, through a process called photorejuvenation.
Our practice utilizes the Lumenis One which is a true fourth generation Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) system with patented state-of-the-art technology. It optimizes power, pulsing and light delivery to provide maximum results, comfort and safety. Lumenis invented IPL technology and continues to perfect it. Frequently Asked Questions
Lumenis One delivers a special range of wavelengths of light in customizable pulses through a sapphire tip placed gently onto your skin. The light is absorbed either superficially by broken capillaries and dark pigment or deeper by larger vessels and collagen. Dilated capillaries coagulate, pigmented lesions darken and then peel off and new collagen fibers are laid down, giving the skin a renewed and more youthful appearance.

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are delivered. Most people feel a stinging, like the snapping of a hot rubber band, during parts of the treatment process. This sensation lasts only seconds and its intensity depends on the area being treated. An anesthetic cream may be used, but many find it unnecessary. Treatments are administered in a series of four to six sessions that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about twenty minutes.

Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk— and, it preserves the wonderful "no down time" feature that people appreciate so much.

While there are lasers that treat telangiectasia (spider veins) and broken capillaries, other lasers that treat benign brown pigments and others yet that are used for resurfacing facial skin, no technology provides the long-term improvement of complexion and texture of the IPL Skin Treatments using the Photorejuvenation program— all without interruption in your busy lifestyle.

- Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photo-aging
Facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create smoother looking skin. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. It not only serves as an excellent treatment modality for the face but the same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, back, arms and hands.
- Benign Vascular Lesions: Broken ("Spider") Veins and Capillaries
The face has an excellent network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure and certain lifestyle factors cause a number of them to break causing the appearance of red streaks or blotches on the face. The same process can occur on other body surface areas but is generally most noticeable on the face followed by the neck. IPL therapy can eliminate damaged veins and capillaries by removing virtually all traces of these unsightly imperfections.
- Redness Caused by Broken Capillaries (for example that seen in Rosacea)
Many people suffer from broken capillaries and large areas of erythema (redness), that cause them social embarrassment. For both women and men, IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels without injuring the surrounding healthy skin.
